Position Overview:
The Electrical Cost Estimator will be responsible for forecasting the cost of electrical projects, including labor, materials, and equipment, while ensuring adherence to local regulations and standards. This role combines general cost estimating with a specific focus on the electrical scope of MEP projects. The successful candidate will manage estimates for multiple projects simultaneously, working closely with internal teams, subcontractors, clients and suppliers to ensure accurate, competitive, and timely bids.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate cost estimates for electrical systems and projects, including materials, labor, and equipment. Conduct thorough analysis based on project blueprints, specifications, and local electrical regulations in Malta.
- Comprehensive Bid Preparation: Develop detailed bids by assessing project scope, material requirements, labor costs, and any potential risks. Ensure all cost components are captured, and bids are competitive and compliant with client needs.
- Cost Analysis & Value Engineering: Conduct cost analysis to ensure project cost-efficiency without compromising quality. Identify areas where savings can be achieved, including material alternatives or labor strategies.
- Budget Development: Work with project managers to develop realistic and comprehensive project budgets, considering all cost elements and ensuring they meet financial objectives.
- Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to gather essential information for estimating. Ensure any changes in the project scope are reflected in updated cost projections.
- Management of Multiple Estimates: Simultaneously handle cost estimation for multiple ongoing projects at various stages, ensuring each project receives accurate and timely estimates.
- Vendor & Supplier Relations: Build strong relationships with local suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and quality services. Regularly update cost databases to reflect current market trends and pricing in Malta.
- Risk & Contingency Planning: Identify potential project risks (e.g., delays, supply shortages) and include contingency pricing where necessary to account for unforeseen events.
- Local Compliance: Ensure that all estimates comply with Malta’s local building codes, health & safety standards, and electrical regulations.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive and organized records of all estimates, bids, contracts, and project documentation for future reference and audits.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator or Cost Estimator, preferably within the Maltese construction or electrical contracting industry.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, installations, and local regulations in Malta.
- Solid knowledge of cost estimation techniques and project budgeting principles.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Proficiency in estimation software and strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage estimates for multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Malta’s construction industry, including local suppliers, subcontractors, and regulatory environment.
