Electrical Cost Estimator

Job Summary:

The Electrical Cost Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical works associated with HVAC systems, ventilation installations, and heat pump solutions. This role requires a strong understanding of system design, electrical integration, and project tendering. The successful candidate will work closely with design teams, suppliers, and project stakeholders to ensure precise budgeting and efficient project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimation & Analysis
Prepare detailed cost estimates for electrical components of HVAC, ventilation, and heat pump systems, including power distribution, controls, cabling, and associated infrastructure. Analyze drawings, specifications, and system designs to determine accurate material, labor, and equipment costs.
  • Tendering & Bid Preparation
Compile and submit comprehensive tenders by evaluating project scope, technical requirements, and commercial factors. Ensure all bids are competitive, technically compliant, and aligned with client specifications.
  • Design Interpretation & Support
Review HVAC and heat pump system designs, schematics, and control strategies to ensure accurate electrical costing. Collaborate with engineers and designers to clarify requirements and optimize solutions.
  • Value Engineering
Identify cost-saving opportunities through alternative materials, system configurations, or installation methods without compromising system performance or compliance.
  • Budget Planning
Assist in developing project budgets and forecasts, ensuring alignment with project goals and financial targets.
  • Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination
Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing for equipment such as heat pumps, ventilation units, control panels, and electrical accessories. Maintain updated pricing databases.
  • Project Coordination
Work closely with project managers and technical teams to ensure estimates reflect current project scope and any design changes.
  • Risk Assessment
Identify potential risks such as equipment lead times, design changes, or installation challenges, and incorporate contingencies into estimates.
  • Compliance & Standards
Ensure all estimates comply with relevant electrical standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.
  • Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of estimates, tender documents, supplier quotations, and project data for tracking and future reference.
  • Client & Commercial Responsibilities: Manage new client enquiries, providing clear and technically sound guidance based on electrical engineering principles, particularly in HVAC, ventilation, and heat pump systems. Prepare accurate, detailed, and competitive quotations, including full electrical scope, specifications, materials, and system components.  Review project requirements, drawings, and system designs to ensure all quotations are technically compliant and commercially viable. Proactively follow up on submitted quotations within 48 hours to address client queries, provide clarifications, and support successful bid conversion. Monitor and follow up on confirmed orders, ensuring all electrical submissions, documentation, and approvals are completed in a timely manner. Coordinate closely with internal teams, suppliers, and clients to track project timelines and ensure smooth progression from quotation to execution. Maintain consistent communication with clients, providing updates on order status, technical submissions, and project milestones. Build and maintain strong client relationships to support repeat business and long-term partnerships.
